About Me

Thought you'd like to know how I got hooked on quilting...

A little backtracking here to October 2006...all my children had moved out of the house. I now had three empty bedrooms. Hopefully, none of my children will come home now and the rooms are mine to use!!!

I had bought a really expensive sewing machine - a Viking Designer SE. I decided to turn one of the bedrooms into a sewing room. I've always had to use the kitchen table to sew and put the machine away each time. What a wonderful thought that I could leave it up all the time!

So, I moved everything out and painted the walls and decided to quilt a wall hanging to christen the room. The fact that I hadn't quilted before wasn't going to stop me. I searched online for wall hanging patterns and came across the Thimbleberries Club that I just had to join. I found a Local Quilt Shop (LQS) and drove the 40 minutes to investigate. Well, there was no room in the Club...I pleading and begged and they called to see if they could add another person. Two days later and several annoying calls (from me) and a threat of bodily harm, they made room for me. I was so excited to have a monthly project - a simple block each month...I can do that. It's not like I was making a king-sized quilt or anything huge. These blocks will eventually make something big and I'll know how to quilt by then...right?

Here's the unfortunate part...the Thimbleberries Club 2007 didn't start for awhile, so, after all that, I had to wait a long time to start and it will be a year before it will hang on my wall.

Since Thimbleberries Club 2007 was a bit away, I decided to join the local guild and took a table runner class. This is when it hit me...I found great pleasure in cutting up all the fabric and putting it in piles of squares and sewing them back together in a different pattern!! Who would have thought??? I was so hooked and haven't stopped cutting and sewing little squares, triangles, big squares...

Online Quilt Festival - Spring 2009

What a great idea to host an online Quilt Festival ! Thanks to Amy @ Park City Girl! Be sure to stop by and add your favorite quilt! Well, I really want to join in this huge event, so I'm hoping that an almost completed quilt will qualify! I've chosen my Hungry Caterpillar quilt as my favorite because it is my best to date and who doesn't want to show their best? Of course, I have a long way to go, but I'm learning with each and every quilt. This quilt's story goes like this...it was a kit! I'm not ready to chose my own fabrics/colors just yet (may never be!). I got the kit and went to work trying to hit the one-year old granddaughter's birthday (missed it, of course). I simply loved its simplicity since it was panels that I just put together, but it was a good ego boost for this quilting novice, not to mention the practice I'd gotten! So, I loaded on my new HQ16 with the ProStitcher and it sat until I found a digital pattern to go with it. Once again, I

Grow Your Blog Party

THIS GIVEAWAY IS OVER. Next time???? Winner announced here . Welcome to the Grow Your Blog Party that is being hosted by Vicki of 2 Bags Full ! As you can see by the tabs at the top of the page, I became "hooked on quilting" in 2007, but I didn't really complete many quilts...they are still here waiting for their turn! LOL I have found that I'm a process person rather than a product person, which means I just want to cut up fabric, sew it back together in a different manner and I don't really need a finished project, but I plan to turn over a new leaf in 2013 I'm going to dig into all those UFO's and finish them up!  I've also blogged since 2007, but life has gotten in the way over the years so posting has been sporadic, but I am now going to journal about my adventures in quilting. I'd love to share what I've learned about quilting and what I hope to learn and all those quilts that I plan to finish this year!  I've d

Latest Project - Crayon Curtains

Well, I visited my daughter and she convinced me to sew some curtains for her daughter's pre-school classroom. It's my daughter's design, based loosely on a Pinterest photo. LOL Here's the latest photo, what do you think? I'll keep you updated on my progress. I have a bunch of projects that I want to share. Just need to get an app that works to upload my pics from my iPhone or iPad, have any suggestions?  I need an easy way to upload photos and then I'll use my computer to write the blog itself. What do you use?
